The
American High Song
(this is a transcription and may not be accurate)
I propose to you that all kids strive for fame
To be prodigies and Britney Spears and nationally-acclaimed
as exceptionally gifted, talented and great
And I propose we study this in it's natural kind of state
We'll get us
some grad students in sociology
and dress them up in flannel jeans and give them all goatees
and give them cameras and we'll find a school that will agree
the way for better ratings is a documentary
And then the kids will flock
to us as they all start to see
it's their chance of a lifetime to be famous on TV
And my hypothesis is that the cameras they will change
The smart kids act real smarter and the slackers act their age
Well, our cameras will be empty and our microphones a mess
and we'll go back to lab-off weeks with data to access
And we'll say we're in L.A. so nobody could suspect
that our so-called documentary is a sociological experiment
